Rendering
Spray Render Services is a family-run team based in Huddersfield, working throughout Bradford and the surrounding villages. We fit silicone spray render, pebble dashing and external wall insulation, with over 20 years in the trade behind every job.
Bradford is a stone city. Most of its older housing was built from local sandstone rather than brick, and that changes what makes sense when it comes to rendering. We have spent two decades working on Yorkshire stone properties and know where render is the right answer and where it is not.
Whether you are dealing with a cold solid-walled terrace, a rendered finish that has started to fail, or you simply want a cleaner look, we can give you a free no-obligation quote and an honest opinion.
The stone terraces and back-to-backs across Bradford were built solid, with no cavity between inner and outer leaf. There is nothing to inject, so the cavity wall insulation most people are offered simply does not apply. These houses are frequently among the hardest to heat in the country.
External wall insulation is the option that genuinely works on this kind of construction. An insulating layer is fixed to the outside of the stonework and then rendered over, so the wall gets warmer, the fabric is protected from driving rain, and the property gets a new finish at the same time. Nothing is lost from your rooms inside.
A lot of Bradford sits high and catches weather from the west. On exposed elevations, decades of driving rain work into the stone and the mortar joints, and penetrating damp on the inside face of an external wall is a common result.
A breathable silicone render system sheds water off the outside while still allowing moisture to escape from within the wall, which matters a great deal on older solid-walled properties. Trapping moisture in a stone wall behind the wrong kind of coating causes more problems than it solves, so the system specification is not a detail we rush.
Bradford has a number of conservation areas, and Saltaire is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with tight controls on external alterations. Rendering over an original stone frontage in these areas is often restricted or refused outright.
We will tell you straight if we think your property falls into this category. In many cases there is still a sensible route, such as treating a rear or side elevation while leaving the street-facing stonework untouched. Always check with Bradford Council before work is arranged, and we are happy to talk through what is usually acceptable.
We regularly work across Bradford and the surrounding towns and villages, including Shipley, Baildon, Bingley, Idle, Thornton, Queensbury, Clayton, Wibsey, Eccleshill, Allerton, Cottingley and Denholme. If your area is not listed, it is still worth asking.
If you own a property in Bradford and would like a free quote for any of the work described above, get in touch.
Technically yes, and on many properties it is a sound decision, particularly on exposed elevations or where previous repairs have left the stonework patchy. It is worth thinking about carefully though, because it is not easily reversed and stone frontages in good condition are often better left alone. We will give you an honest view rather than simply taking the work.
It comes down to the size of the property, whether you are having insulation fitted underneath, and the condition of the walls to begin with. External wall insulation costs more than render alone but does considerably more for your heating bills. We quote free and in person so the figure you get is a real one.
Yes, and solid walls are exactly where it makes the most difference. Because there is no cavity to fill, insulating externally is usually the only practical way to bring one of these houses up to a reasonable standard without losing internal space.
Possibly, but not automatically. Conservation area status and listed building status both restrict what you can change externally, and Saltaire in particular is tightly controlled. Check with Bradford Council first. We would rather tell you at the quoting stage than have you find out afterwards.
Yes. We are Huddersfield based and work throughout Yorkshire, with Bradford well within our normal patch. Being local to the region means we can get back to you easily if anything ever needs looking at.
